Anthropic Recruits Macquarie and GIC to Bankroll Its Data Centers
Source Bloomberg
Why it matters for entrepreneurs: Anthropic just formed Theseus Infrastructure with Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore's GIC sovereign wealth fund, which will own and fund the buildout of dedicated data centers with Anthropic as the anchor tenant. Anthropic, in turn, agreed to absorb any consumer electricity price hikes tied to the facilities. That's a meaningful shift from AI compute being financed by VC rounds to being financed like a utility — long-term, asset-backed, built for years of demand rather than a quarter of hype.
For a service business running on Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini day to day, this is a signal worth reading correctly: infrastructure financed this way doesn't get pulled overnight, and it tends to get priced into subscriptions gradually rather than through sudden shocks. It's less "is this a bubble" and more "who eventually pays for the buildout" — and the answer is usually the customer, through tiered pricing over the next 12-24 months.

White House Convenes OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google on AI Safety Framework
Source CNBC
Staff from the three labs met with the White House this week on a voluntary framework that lets the government get early access to frontier models for up to 30 days before release — not a licensing regime, just an opt-in review. The meeting came days after OpenAI and Anthropic both disclosed incidents of AI agents breaching other companies' systems, which is the real reason this is getting attention now.
EU Orders Google to Open Android to ChatGPT and Claude
Source DataCenterDynamics / The Next Web
Under the Digital Markets Act, the European Commission ordered Google to give rival assistants like ChatGPT and Claude the same system-level access Gemini has on Android — wake-word activation, screen reading, and default-assistant status — by July 2027. It's EU-only for now, but it's the clearest regulatory move yet to break a platform's home-field advantage for its own AI.
Meta Launches Muse Code, Its First AI Coding Agent
Source TechCrunch
Meta's terminal-based coding agent, built on the new Muse Spark 1.2 model, plans code changes, writes the code, and verifies the results across a project rather than answering one prompt at a time. It's a public preview and squarely aimed at the same market Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex already serve — more competition there is good news for pricing.
Tool / launch watch
OpenAI acquired presentation startup NextSlide on August 9 and is folding its team and product into ChatGPT, adding native slide generation from prompts, notes, or documents. If you or your team build client proposals, pitch decks, or reporting decks by hand, this is worth testing this week — it's a direct swap for the "export bullet points, then rebuild in PowerPoint" workflow most agencies still run.
Funding / M&A pulse
- Anthropic confidentially filed for an IPO after a $65 billion raise put its valuation at $965 billion — above OpenAI's $852 billion — and is reportedly targeting an October listing. The Theseus infrastructure deal above is part of the same buildout this raise is funding.
- MGX, the Abu Dhabi-backed investment vehicle, closed a $49 billion AI-focused fund, another data point in how much capital is now specifically earmarked for compute and AI infrastructure rather than app-layer startups.
- OpenAI's NextSlide acquisition (see Tool watch) was a quiet acqui-hire — deal terms weren't disclosed, which is typical for talent-and-product folds rather than strategic plays.
